Day Two |
Masai Mara
After breakfast we transfer to Nairobi's Wilson Airport for your light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara. We touch down at Angama Mara's airstrip.
Maasai Mara, also known as Masai Mara, and locally simply as The Mara, is a large game reserve in Narok County, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is named in honor of the Maasai people (the ancestral inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara" means "spotted" in the local Maasai language of Maa, due to the many trees which dot the landscape.
It is world-renowned for its exceptional populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephant, and the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra, Thomson's gazelle and other antelope, to and from the Serengeti every year known as the Great Migration.
We check-in at the stunning Angama Mara camp for 2 nights.
Day Three & Four |
Masai Mara
The children were very young, men and women all seemed to be of the same age. There were no old people. They all seemed to be our greatest friends […] big and straight in their brown skins, with their massive hanging braids, their faces dyed in brick-red, leaning on their spears, following us with looks and smiling”. E.H.
Named in honour of the Maasai people who call this corner of Africa home, the Mara is world renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, herds-a-thousand-strong of buffalo, the rare black rhino and a thriving elephant population.
West of the Mara River, beneath the Oloololo escarpment and bordered by Tanzania to the south lies the jewel of this great reserve: the Mara Triangle. Not only is this the most productive part of the entire Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in terms of grass nutrition, but it is also spectacularly scenic. The huge grassy plains are dotted with widely spaced Balanites trees that give the landscape an almost manicured look, which together with the steep-sided escarpment and broad Mara River, provides a breath-taking backdrop for wildlife photographers.

Day Five |
Ngorongoro
Today we take a number of short hops by light aircraft as we fly on to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania via Nairobi with another short hop to the Lake Manyara strip before checking in at the utterly stunning Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a park and UNESCO World Heritage site in the Northeast Tanzania. It contains an old volcano that has collapsed and formed a crater (caldera). The steep sides of the crater have become a natural enclosure for a wide variety of wildlife.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Guests can be forgiven for losing track of which era, or even continent, they are experiencing at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. Nowhere else on earth can you wake up among all the trappings of an elegant baroque chateau – brocade sofas, gilt mirrors, beaded chandeliers and panelled walls – and be instantly transported into one of the most famous African landscapes with just one glance out the window of the lodge. In this place of dramatic contrasts, where Versailles meets Maasai, anything is possible and the natural luxury of the breathtakingly beautiful setting ensures the dramatic interior of your suite blends perfectly with its stilted thatch architecture.

Day Six |
Ngorongoro
If you looked away from the forest and the mountain side you could follow the watercourses and the hilly slope of the land down until the land flattened and the grass was brown and burned and, away, across a long sweep of country, was the brown Rift Valley and the shine of Lake Manyara” E.E.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area is in northern Tanzania. It’s home to the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater and “big 5” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino). Olduvai gorge is a misspelling of Oldupai, a Maasai word for a wild sisal plant that grows in the area. The gorge is located in the Great Rift Valley, between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park. It is 30 miles from Laetoli, another fossil-rich area. Olduvai Gorge was formed about 30,000 years ago, the result of aggressive geological activity and streams.

Day Eight & Nine |
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda was the first national park to be established in Africa in 1925, with the intention to protect its famous mountain gorillas from poachers.
There’s only one reason that visitors make the trek up into the misty, thickly forested uplands of Africa’s smallest and oldest national park – and that’s to spend 60 minutes in the company of mountain gorillas. Volcanoes National Park is also known to the world as the research base of American zoologist Dian Fossey, who studied the primates here until her death in 1985.
These Endangered primates are confined to small areas of Rwanda, Uganda and DRC, with numbers totalling 1,004. There are 12 habituated troops in Volcanoes. You can approach your designated group to within 7m.
