John Barclay and James Stenner have spent years on safari together and give you the opportunity to be hosted and guided on a unique, real safari experience.

Together, John and James are an excellent team in the 'Bush', with John leading the guiding and James delivering the perfect camp and service. The energy between John and James will engulf you and truly add to any Safari experience.

What are their values?

Our core values are first and foremost being ambassadors of the correct codes of conduct in the wilderness areas in which we operate and to observe and preserve the wildlife in these areas in order to enable many generations to come the opportunity of enjoying the experience of spending time in the wild as much as we do.

Secondly, an unrivaled and heightened safari experience for each guest is the focus of every safari.

Where do they go?

The beauty of a mobile safari is that we can go anywhere, and set up a comfortable base camp from which to go and explore our surrounds. Our main locations on Safari are found in Northern Botswana, one of the last truly unspoiled wilderness areas of Africa.

We also offer Safaris in other exciting places across the continent for those looking to explore more.

What do they do?

Barclay Stenner operates exclusive luxury private canvas safaris to suit your expectations and preferred style of safari. Our mobile safaris are reminiscent of the overland expeditions undertaken by early explorers, blended with the touch of modern luxury and exquisite service.

Safari Life

Their Safaris allow for flexibility to explore the best areas of the Okavango Delta, Central Kalahari Game Reserve or the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans depending on the most up to date conditions and animal movements prior to your arrival. Our aim is to deliver the ultimate real Safari and being fully mobile allows us to follow the game and make decisions based on the latest local news from the ‘bush telegraph’.

Mobile Safari's

The beauty of a mobile safari is that we can go anywhere, and set up a luxurious base camp from which to go and explore our surrounds with no one else in sight. Our main locations on Safari are found in Northern Botswana, one of the last truly unspoiled wilderness areas of Africa.

Most travelers opt for a permanent camp, lovely but not what we like to call a real safari, we very fondly call these types of safari a ‘SPAfari’. Private canvas safaris are mobile, more reminiscent of the overland expeditions led by John’s great great grandfather to escort princess Eugenie to see her son’s grave after the Anglo-Zulu wars.

Luxury Private Canvas Safari's

Private canvas safaris are mobile, more reminiscent of the overland expeditions led by John’s great great grandfather to escort princess Eugenie to see her son’s grave after the Zulu wars.

Private canvas safaris are designed to make the most of seasonal conditions and wildlife moments, not being geographically restricted to one area or camp concession. Just last year we had a safari booked for November in the Savute Game Reserve, we had late rains last year which meant it would not been as productive as we liked and we were able to move camp before the safari to the Khwai River where we had an amazing experience with Wild Dogs hunting through our camp, a Lion bringing down a Red Lechwe literally meters in front of the vehicle. Had we been limited into a permanent camp, things would have been entirely different.

Walking Safari's

John Barclay and James Stenner invite you on an African adventure that will take you back in time to the romantic era of safaris. This expedition begins at one of the natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls on The Zambezi River and continues to Hwange National Park – considered one of the great wildlife refuges of Africa.

The town of Victoria Falls is situated on the banks of The Zambezi River and in the midst of The Zambezi National Park.  While staying in Victoria Falls you will be accommodated in luxury at The Victoria Falls Hotel.  Your visit will include a sunset cruise on The Zambezi River a visit to The Falls and the opportunity to take a helicopter flight over The Falls or a canoeing trip on the Zambezi.

From Victoria Falls you will travel by road to Hwange National Park, a 14,650 Ha wilderness preserve boasting 100 mammal species and 400 bird species.  It is also home to one of the largest wild populations of African elephants. Here you will have the opportunity to view big game from an open safari vehicle or track animals on foot if you so desire.
