3 nights Sossusvlei | 3 nights Skeleton Coast | 3 nights Etosha
DAY ONE, TWO & THREE
For those who have considered travelling to Africa Sossusvlei is likely the first attraction that pops up on the radar, however it is only one clay and salt pan in the vast 49,800 km² Namib-Naukluft National Park. However, it is by no means any less spectacular! The name Sossusvlei translates to ‘dead-end marsh and is the place where the Tsauchab River can go no further, resulting in a bone dry white pan surrounded by the highest red sand dunes in the world.
A photographer's delight year round, and even more so during rare times of heavy rain when the Tsauchab fills the pan. Walk up Big Daddy, capture the incredible desolation of Dead Vlei and hop on a hot air balloon to watch the sunrise over this spectacular landscape. Close to Sossusvlei carved by the Tsauchab is the Sesriem Canyon measuring about 30m deep and 1km long. And further north is the small town of Solitaire, famous for Big Moose’s Bakery and their incredible Apple Strudel! Despite the harsh unforgiving desert conditions this area provides many unique experiences and a variety of plants and animals that have adapted to this environment. Truly deserving of the distinction of the most spectacular attraction in Namibia.
