DAY ONE
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by a representative of Asilia Lodges and escorted to the vehicle for your road transfer to Arusha Town and on to Legendary Lodge.
Legendary Lodge is located at the foothills of Mount Meru, on the outskirts of the bustling town of Arusha and is the gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit of Tanzania. This classic haven boasts lush tropical gardens and is surrounded by a working coffee farm. The peaceful cottages are the perfect place to prepare for or reflect on a safari.
Overnight: Legendary Lodge
DAY TWO & DAY THREE
After breakfast you will be collected from Legendary Lodge by your Asilia driver and transferred to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. After your Lake Manyara experience you will be transferred to The Highlands Camp
Ngorongoro Crater Decent
Enjoy a game drive in one of the most game-rich areas in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater. Explore the vast 300km2 floor with an experienced guide and stop for lunch in a shady spot under the trees, maximising your time in this unforgettable landscape. Our seven-seater closed vehicles are fitted with power points so you’re able to charge your devices, as well as a fridge to keep your drinks deliciously frosty.
Olmoti climb
The Olmoti climb follows an ancient Maasai cattle trail through mountain forest, grasslands and rocky outcrops. Make the most of outstanding birding opportunities and the chance to see a vast array of butterfly species. At the top, you are rewarded with a magnificent view of the crater below.
Empakaai descent
Descend into the Empakaai crater accompanied by an NCA ranger and walk to the sparkling soda lake on the crater floor, famous for the pink flamingo that congregate on its shores. Because of the camp’s proximity to Empakaai, it is the only property that gives you the opportunity to make this a half-day excursion.
Community & cultural visits
Spend the afternoon with the local Maasai in one of the neighbouring villages to learn about the traditional way of life that has defined this corner of Africa for centuries. School visits may be possible depending on the time of year.
Overnight: Highlands Camp
DAY FOUR, FIVE & SIX
After your breakfast you will be transferred to the Manyara Airstrip to meet your private charter flight to the Seronera Airstrip in the Serengeti. On arrival you will meet a guide from Namiri Plains Camp who will transfer you in a game drive vehicle to the lodge.
Game drives
Enjoy twice daily game drives from Namiri Plains with the knowledgeable guides. Study and photograph the big cats of the area at your leisure, and absorb the extraordinary sight of massive herds of wildebeest appearing to take over the plains. All vehicles are open-sided and have power points where you can charge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks perfectly chilled.
Walking safaris
Walking is the most intimate way to experience the bush; the pace is comfortable, your eye-level is that of the wildlife, and your senses are more acutely aware of the sights, smells and sounds. Walking safaris must be booked in advance.
Cheetah Research Project
The Serengeti Cheetah Project has been based here since the 1970s. Meet one of the researchers often near or at Namiri Plains and learn more about the local cheetah population. Take note of any cheetahs you spot on safari so you can share the info with the team. Bookings essential. (At an additional cost)
Hot air ballooning
Balloon safaris are a romantic and iconic way to experience the wilderness of East Africa, as you fly silently over the plains teeming with herds of wildlife in the early morning. Typically, a balloon safari begins around 6am and lasts for around 1-2 hours. Balloon safaris (additional cost) in the Serengeti take off from designated sites in the nearby Seronera area. The safari is followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush, a fitting end to a memorable flight over the wild.
Overnight: Namiri Plains Camp
DAY SEVEN, EIGHT & NINE
You will be returned to the Seronera Airstrip to board your private charter flight to the Kogatende Airstrip in northern Serengeti. On arrival meet the guide from Lamai Serengeti and transfer to the Lamai Serengeti Lodge
Game drives Explore the Northern Serengeti with our fabulous and very experienced guides. Game drives allow you to get closer to the big game and cover greater distances so that you can explore further afield in this beautiful part of the Serengeti.
**Game drives are on a shared basis unless a private guide and vehicle have been pre-booked. Max six in a vehicle. Walking safaris Walking safaris are available at Lamai in certain seasons. At times of year when the grass can be a bit higher walking is sometimes not possible so it is important to bear this in mind (typically between January - March and June).
Walking in the bush is a fantastic experience and one of our favourite safari pastimes. It gives you the chance to really learn about the intricacies of the African bush; to taste, touch, smell and feel Africa. You don't get as up close and personal to the big game, but you do meet the little guys, all equally important in the grand scheme of things.
Overnight: Lamai Serengeti
DAY TEN
Your tremendous journey with us comes to an end. You will be transferred back to the Kogatende Airstrip to board your private charter flight for your outbound journey.
