BOTSWANA

Botswana

Botswana offers one of the most diverse and visually stunning Safari aspects that Africa has to offer.  It is here that you can experience the quiet desolation of the Kalahari Desert and the Makgadikgadi Pans, see the world from the water in the Okavango Delta and marvel in the magic of the elephants of Chobe.

Getting your Bearings

The first step to planning your holiday is to understand the regions and how to get there.  From the UK, the only Southern African country with direct links to the United Kingdom is South Africa with flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town from London with onward connections to Gaberone, Maun and Kasane..  Many of our guests combine Botswana with a visit to the Victoria Falls and this is something that we highly recommend.  Botswana is very much a tailor-made destination.  Our Travel Team are on hand to plan the best route for you.

The gateways to Botswana are Gaberone, Maun and Kasane as well as Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Livingstone in Zambia.  From here, depending on the location of your lodges, transfers will either be by road or by light aircraft, a truly thrilling arrival to your Botswana Holiday.

Where to Go

Botswana offers a very diverse Safari experience with small, intimate lodges and few crowds.  It was here at Chobe that Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor honeymooned.  We focus on five specific regions in Botswana, namely Chobe, Moremi & Okavango Region,  Okavango Delta, The Kalahari Desert and the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve.  Contact our Travel Team to get the ball rolling.

CHOBE

Located in the North East of the country, Chobe is a great add-on to a Victoria Falls stay, especially if you are a little pressed for time.  It is here that the countries of Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia converge on the Zambezi River.

Chobe National Park is well known for its excellent populations of elephant,  In the north-west you can discover the floodplains of the Chobe River, the Savuti is known for its landscapes of marshlands and the Linyanti River with its riverine forests.

We offer a number of stunning safari options in the Chobe region, both land and water-based.

OKAVANGO REGION, DELTA & MOREMI

The true jewel in Botswana's crown, the Okavango.  Words cannot describe the incredible experience that you encounter here, deep in the bush with the winding waterways, it's no wonder that Prince Harry chose Botswana as the special place to propose to the Duchess of Sussex.

Home to the Big 5 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Delta consists of endless floodplains, forests and riverine woodlands and an incredible example of biodiversity.

Many of the safari activities in the Okavango centre around the water and travellers will find themselves exploring marshy waterways by boat and even traditional mokoro (a dugout canoe).

THE KALAHARI DESERT

Home of the famous San people, also known as "Bushmen", the Kalahari is an experience unlike no other.  The San have lived here for over 20 000 years and their skills of survival in this harsh environment are legendary.

It is here that you can view the incredible wide open spaces of the Makgadikgadi Pans with the spectacular sights of the migrating herds.  During Spring, flowers and plants bloom transforming the usually barren landscape into an oasis of colour and life. The winter is pretty dry and while daytime temperatures are more bearable, it can get quite chilly at night.

Most visitors to the Kalahari tend to visit the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, an absolutely enormous reserve in the centre of the country, or the vast Makgadikgadi Pans slightly further north. The closest town is Maun, with regular flights from Johannesburg, Cape Town and other destinations in Botswana.
