ZIMBABWE

Zimbabwe

Emerging from years of instability, we are proud to featuring Zimbabwe as part of our product list.  In our opinion, one of the most beautiful countries in Africa with wonderfully warm people.  There is so much more to Zimbabwe than just the Victoria Falls and we take pleasure in introducing this exciting destination to you.

Getting your Bearings

The first step to planning your holiday is to understand the regions and how to get there.  From the UK, the only Southern African country with direct links to the United Kingdom is South Africa with flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town from London with onward connections to Harare, Victoria Falls and Bulawayo.  Many of our guests combine Botswana with a visit to the Victoria Falls and this is something that we highly recommend.   Our Travel Team are on hand to plan the best route for you.

Most of Zimbabwe's attractions are in the North of the country with the stunning Victoria Falls being the jewel in Zimbabwe's crown.  In the North East discover Lake Kariba and Mana Pools, in the South West, the stunning famous reserves of Hwange.  The spectacular highlands and Great Zimbabwe, the remains of one of the oldest civilizations in Africa, should also be a must on any extended itinerary to Zimbabwe.

Bear in mind that the Victoria Falls is shared with neighbouring Zambia and it is easy to stay on the Zambian side of the border as well.

GREAT ZIMBABWE

Great Zimbabwe is a ruined city in the south-eastern hills of Zimbabwe near Lake Mutirikwe and the town of Masvingo. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the country's Late Iron Age. Construction on the city began in the 11th century and continued until it was abandoned in the 15th century.

In a small museum that stands near the site nowadays, you can inspect shards of Persian pottery, a Chinese writing set and brass ornaments from Assam in India, all unearthed amid or near the ruins and all extremely old.

VICTORIA FALLS

The town of Victoria Falls lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi and has become a focal point for action-packed fun including enchanting sightseeing flights over the falls, which can be done by light-aircraft, helicopter and microlight.

Those seeking further thrills can bungee-jump over the Zambezi from the Knife Edge Bridge or raft down one of the world’s toughest stretches of white water.

We have a host of incredible experiences on offer including day trips and extensions into stunning Botswana.

HWANGE & KARIBA

Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest park covering an area of 14,600 square kilometers. It offers a vast array of vegetation, scenery and game, notably large herds of animals and, in particular, elephant.

One of the joys of Hwange is that its wildlife and scenery can be enjoyed by game drives - both day and night - or on foot with armed guides.  We are also excited to feature the "Elephant Express", a unique railway carriage operating transfers through the Hwange National Park.

In the late 1950s, the Kariba Dam flooded much of the middle Zambezi Valley, creating one of the world’s largest man-made lakes: Lake Kariba. Known for its excellent tiger fishing, herds of animals that drink from its waters and its exceptional sunsets, Lake Kariba is best explored by houseboat. The valley’s prolific game concentrated on the southern shore, where Matusadona National Park was created. The lake is a superb place to watch the sunset, with the Matusadona Mountains in the background making for an excellent photo opportunity. One of the Matusadona’s greatest features is its bird life with over 240 species having been recorded in the park.
